AL Azhar tunnel

·        Due to the positive aspects of new transport means such as tunnels which have been proved from implementation of metro lines (1&2) of the Cairo subway and transporting more than two millions passengers per day and the resulting savings in time of trips and energy and effort. Additionally, Egypt has entered the field of construction of tunnel’s projects with some gained experience and maximized the human resources in the field of tunneling compared to other countries in Africa and Middle East. All these successes have been led to the implementation of the project Al-Azhar tunnels for vehicles by the supervision of the National Authority for tunnels (NAT), and one of the main components of the project is the development of the old Cairo zone and tourism area in one of the important archaeological areas in the history of Islamic Egypt also to protect it from the effects of environmental pollution (visual and audio) from the various surface transports. The project includes 2 adjacent tunnels with a length of 2.655 km each, including entrances and exits, each assigned to a single traffic way consisting of 2 traffic lanes and the alignment is mainly under the buildings enclosed between Al Azhar and Mouski Streets.
