Cairo metro line 1

  • The current Cairo metro network consists of line no.1 which extends from Helwan to New El Marg.
  • Line no.1 of the metro is the backbone of the Greater Cairo Subway network, the first subway line in Africa, the Middle East and the Arab region. Cairo is the pioneer in the use of this advanced means of mass transport that provides safety, comfort and speed, the design capacity of the line is 2 million passengers per day.
  • The first line extends from Helwan through Al-Ma’asara, Tora Al Balad, Maadi and El-Sayda Zaynab. It then leads to Al Tahrir Square and then to Ramses Square. It then goes north to Ghamra and Hadayek Al-Kubba to end at the ring road at Al-Marg Al-Jadida station with a length of 44 km. 5 stations are under ground stations, and this line have been completed in three stages.
