Alexandria Regional Metro
Alexandria Regional Metro
Alexandria is the second largest city in Egypt. A transportation study carried out in 1986 and 1999 recommended the implementation of a regional metro line extending from Abou-Kir at the far east of the city to Kp 21 at the far west of the city, having a length of approximately 43 km. The line will benefit from the use of the existing railway line from Abou-Kir to Misr stations in the centre of the city. This forms the first section of the Line extending about 21.5 km, most of which will be on grade and viaduct. The other sections will be: a bored tunnel for the section passing through the centre of the city to El Max, and from El Max to the end of the line it is foreseen to be partially on viaduct and partially on grade.
